"Mojn Southjütland"​

Day 1: “Mojn”

If you drive across the border in Schleswig-Holstein, you find yourself directly in Sønderjylland. There, people also greet each other with a heart-warming “Mojn Mojn” and the border only has political reasons, because people have been living in harmony with each other for many decades. From here it is also not far to our host on this trip, Hotel Sønderborg Strand, located right in the heart of southern Jutland’s largest city on the island of Als.
After check-in, we have dinner together and if you like, you can go for a first walk on your own.

Day 2: Sonderborg

At the beginning of our stay we explore the city in the morning together with the local tour guide on a 2-hour city tour. You will learn a lot about the varied history of the city, which was founded in the 13th century.
After some free time, we drive a short distance up the Düppeler Schanzen in the early afternoon. There we visit the history center “Dybbøl Banke”. It tells about the feud between Danes, Prussians and Austrians in the century before last…
Dinner is then returned to the hotel.

Day 3: The Vikings and the Wadden Sea

A panoramic drive takes us in the morning to the North Sea coast in Denmark’s oldest town – Ribe. Here was one of the most important trading places for the Vikings. We experience this during a 1-hour city tour. After some free time, the journey continues to Høyer. There we visit the World Natural Heritage “National Park Wadden Sea”. We experience the world’s unique landscape on a Wadden Sea Safari together with a local guide.
After this natural spectacle, it is only a short distance to neighboring Møgeltønder. There enjoy a delicious dinner in the Krug at Schackenborg Castle. In the evening we reach Sønderborg again.

Day 4: Royal Jutland and the Marshland

After breakfast we drive north to Kolding. We owe our first stop to the only remaining royal castle in Jutland, Koldinghus Fortress. The former seat of the Danish kings is now a fortress, museum and an architectural masterpiece. In order to protect the old and fragile masonry of one wing of the building from collapsing, a completely suspended structure was placed over this part of the building, which in itself is a world-class attraction!

You can also visit the heroes’ tower, the ruins hall, the castle church, a library and Denmark’s largest knights’ hall. Permanent traveling exhibitions of international standing round off a visit to the Koldinghus positively. Finally, we visit the fantastic nature of South Jutland again and look at it from above. Arrived in Skaerbaek we climb the observation tower “Marsk Tower” with its 146 steps. This unique tower, which is actually a sculpture, offers indescribable views all the way to Sylt when the weather is nice. A great natural spectacle at the end of the trip…

Jutland, the real Denmark

Day 1: ”Hjertelig velkommen” in Jutland

Over the course of the day, we continue via the Flensburg border crossing to the island of Als and Sønderborg – welcome to Denmark.

Day 2: Jutland steeped in history

Well strengthened from breakfast we drive a short distance up the Düppeler Höhen – to the history center “Dybbøl Banke”. It tells about the feud of the Danes with the Germans.

From there we continue to Kolding.” There we visit the fortress Koldinghus, the only remaining royal fortress in Jutland. Today it is a fortress, a museum and an architectural masterpiece at the same time!

In addition to architectural features, the Heroes’ Tower, the Ruins Hall, the Castle Church, a library and Denmark’s largest knight’s hall are also worth seeing. The journey continues to Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city, to the open-air museum “Den gamle By”. The museum was built in 1914 in the form of a small medieval town along the Au. Day 3: The Danish North Cape and a desert-like panorama…

In the late morning we reach Skagen, the northern tip of Denmark and also known for its special light conditions, which inspired the famous Skagen painters to create fantastic pictures. Here we first enjoy a tractor ride to the “Grenen”, where the North Sea and the Baltic Sea meet and watch this natural spectacle that is unique in the world…

After an individual break in the center of the small town, we drive a short distance by bus to marvel at another absolute specialty: we walk the second largest shifting dune in Europe, “Råbjerg Mile”. Just 2 numbers that make the enormous dimension of this natural phenomenon clear: the masses of sand reach heights of over 40 meters and cover an area of ​​around 120 hectares. If you stand on the dune, you can see both the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, a unique natural spectacle that you simply have to experience…!

In the late afternoon we reach our next host, where we have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: The North Sea coast

After a panoramic drive through the “Thy” national park and past Hanstholm, we reach the small ferry port in Agger. From here it is only a 15-minute crossing to Thyborøn, the town between the Limfjord and the North Sea, surrounded by endless white sandy beaches and Denmark’s second largest fishing port. Here you can feel the natural forces of the Danish west coast particularly intensely…!
First we visit the port of Thyborøn together with the local tour guide, see and experience exciting things in Denmark’s second largest fishing port.

So much sea air makes you hungry and so we enjoy a small lunchtime snack. After this refreshment, we visit the local fish auction hall and are also accompanied here by the tour guide. We find out in an interesting way how a fish auction works and what actually goes with it before it comes to the auction. There is free time before we reach our next hotel in the late afternoon, dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Holstebro and a silent watchman

In the morning we reach Holstebro, the largest town in West Jutland.
On a German-speaking city tour we learn more about Holstebro, a city rich in culture and full of various sculptures (a woman worth around $75 million) and then stroll through Denmark’s oldest pedestrian street on our own. Here we have time for shopping, browsing and shopping.
Then we go back to the North Sea coast to Bovbjerg. During a walk along the cliffs to the Bovbjerg lighthouse, we once again feel the powerful and intense forces of nature on the Danish North Sea coast – an impressive experience… Of course, there is still enough time to visit the lighthouse on your own to explore.

Day 6: På gensyn – Goodbye to Denmark

Hiking experience Jutland

Day 1: “Hjertelig velkommen” in Jutland, in the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site

In the morning we continue to Høyer on the North Sea coast via the Flensburg border crossing. At the beginning of our stay we visit the Wadden Sea National Park, among other things the most bird-rich area in Europe. We experience the world’s unique landscape on a Wadden Sea Safari together with a local guide and many surprising experiences. After this natural spectacle, a panoramic drive past Ribe and Varde along the North Sea coast via Hvide Sande and Søndervig to Ringkøbing. In the late afternoon we reach our first host, after check-in we have dinner together and end the day comfortably.

Day 2: Along Ringkøbing Fjord

After breakfast drive to Ringkøbing on the North Sea coast. We start our hike along the fjord to Søndervig. From there continue south through the dune heath to the Lyngvig lighthouse to the end point at Hvide Sande, where you have free time.

Day 3: The North Sea coast from Bovbjerg to Thyborøn

Hike starting at Bovbjerg Lighthouse, which stands on one of only 2 cliffs on the west coast (fantastic view of the sea from the lighthouse).
The first section goes along the cliffs, then always along the coast over the beach dike in a northerly direction to Thyborøn, Denmark’s second largest fishing port. On the way you will come across many bunkers of the Atlantic Wall and the “Flyholm” rescue station with its old lifeboat, which can be visited.
In Thyborøn the snail house is worth seeing, the church as the first new church in Denmark for over 100 years, the memorial of the Skagerrak Battle and the harbor itself.
Afterwards, a fish buffet with freshly caught fish awaits our taste buds for dinner before we return to Ringkøbing.

Day 4: Through the nature reserve “Klosterhede”

Circular hike through one of Denmark’s largest forest areas (approx. 6,400 ha), very species-rich and fantastic nature, very rich in water, large population of red deer and many beaver colonies. Among other things, we pass the burial mounds of Rishøje, a collection of burial mounds from the Bronze Age. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 5: National Park “Thy”

Today we undertake the most demanding hike of the trip in Denmark’s oldest national park (many different soils such as bogs, heather, dunes, sand etc.).
Start in Nørre Vorrupør, where the trawlers are still pulled ashore. Today’s destination is Klitmøller, the “Cold Hawaii” of Denmark, where the surfing world championships take place every year. On the way we always enjoy great views of the North Sea or the nature reserve.

After the hike, a short stop at the Hanstholm lighthouse before we reach our hotel in Hirtshals in the early evening. Dinner.

Day 6: around Skagen

Today we use the bus throughout the day as we drive to various spots around Skagen and hike in stages. First, however, we visit the North Sea Oceanarium in Hirtshals, Northern Europe’s largest aquarium. With a total of 58 aquariums, through which 4.5 million liters of seawater flow, it offers its guests all kinds of exciting insights and experiences relating to the inhabitants of the North Sea. More than 70 different species of fish swim through the impressive water landscape, and there are always interesting exhibitions. Unforgettable and not to be missed is the visit to the seal family during the daily feeding… Then we drive to a forest area south of Skagen.
From here hike to the shifting dune “Råbjerg Mile”. We walk the second largest shifting dune in Europe, a highlight of the whole trip! Only 2 numbers that make the enormous dimension of this natural phenomenon clear: the masses of sand reach heights of over 40 m and cover an area of ​​about 120 hectares. Funen, the sun garden of Denmark

Day 1: “Hjer telig velkommen” on Funen

From the border, we recommend arriving via Kolding, where we make a first stop. Here we visit the ruins of Koldinghus, a former seat of the kings of Denmark. The castle from the 13th century is now a ruin, a museum and an architectural masterpiece with various exhibitions of international standing! Continuing over the ”Lille-Belt” bridge we finally reach our destination – ”hjertelig velkommen” on Funen!
The bustling and lively capital of Odense is our starting point to discover the homeland of probably the most famous Dane, Hans Christian Andersen. After check-in, we have dinner together and end the day in a relaxed atmosphere.

Day 2: The capital Odense

Well strengthened from breakfast we explore the capital of the island and at the same time the home of Hans Christian Andersen. Everywhere in the city you will come across the world-famous poet and storyteller again and again.

After the tour of the city, a visit to the Hans Christian Andersen Museum is of course a good idea (optional). Or you
spends time in the very attractive and beautiful pedestrian area of the city center. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 3: Island panorama

Today we explore more beautiful sides of Funen on a panoramic drive away from the capital. After being welcomed by the tour guide, our first destination is romantic Kerteminde, located directly on the east coast of the island. Continue south to Nyborg, one of Denmark’s oldest and most important cities. In the Middle Ages, the city was the seat of the Danish royal family for 150 years. This is impressively documented by Nyborg Castle with its ancient ensemble, embedded in a rampart in the city centre.

After a little free time we reach the last destination of our day, the town of Svendborg in the very south of Funen. The secret capital of the island is fantastically located directly on Svendborgsund and invites you to be discovered with its very beautiful city center and many medieval buildings. The city’s museum harbor is also well worth seeing. Svendborg is well-known as a center for wooden shipbuilding.
Continuing along the southwestern coast and via Faaborg, the panoramic trip ends back at the hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 1: “God dag Danmark”

Arrival is via Hamburg and Flensburg. We start our excursion program on the Düppeler heights near Sønderborg and visit the history center “Dybbøl Banke”. This event, which is very important for today’s German-Danish relationship, tells of the feud between Danes, Prussia and Austria for supremacy in the Schleswig-Holstein region in the century before last. After we have also visited the associated historic mill, we reach our hotel in Sønderborg. After check-in, we have dinner together and end the day comfortably.

Day 4: Danish North Cape & its sea creatures

Today’s first destination is in Hirtshals. We explore Northern Europe’s largest aquarium. The journey continues over the “Little Belt Bridge” on the island of Funen to the capital Odense. It is also the home of Hans Christian Andersen. Everywhere in the city you will come across the world-famous poet and storyteller again and again. Worth seeing among many other things are the old quarter with the beautifully renovated town houses around the Hans Christian Museum, the former poorhouse in Paaskestræde and the small river in the center where the women lived during the lifetime of H.C. Andersen washed their laundry. Also worth seeing is the beautiful Sct. Knud’s Church, which is one of Denmark’s finest examples of high Gothic architecture. Optional: Visit to the Hans Christian Andersen Museum in the city centre. There is then a little free time before we reach our host for the day on the outskirts of town.

Day 6: Royal Denmark

We reach the island of Zealand via the famous “Storebelt Bridge”. The day is first dedicated to the former royal town of Roskilde. Once there, we are guests in the famous Viking Ship Museum. The oldest part of the museum, the Viking Ship Hall, was created as a large exhibition space for the permanent presentation of the 5 world-famous Skuldelev Viking ships, which together with another ship collection form the core of the exhibition. The ships were found and excavated in the fjord in 1962. In addition, the museum has its own island with a harbour, boatyard and the “Tunet”, the meeting place of the Vikings. If you like, you can lend a hand and try to make a rope, carve patterns in wood or forge a red-hot iron…

Our next destination is Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød. The largest renaissance complex in northern Europe with its beautiful landscaped park with several baroque gardens is certainly a highlight on a trip to Denmark. Frederiksborg tells 500 years of Danish history, the tour of the castle with the knight’s hall, knight’s room, castle church, the marble gallery, the Neptune fountain and much more is more than impressive.

Royal Denmark with Copenhagen

Day 1: ”Hjer telig velkommen” in Zealand

Arrival is via the Puttgarden or Rostock ferry ports to Rødbyhavn or Gedser.
We start the excursion program with a short detour to the famous chalk cliffs of “Møns Klint” on the island of Møn and enjoy the first breathtaking views. We reach our location hotel in the early evening at the latest, where we then have dinner together and spend the night.

Day 2: Copenhagen and Frederiksborg Palace

After a hearty breakfast and a bit of individual time in the hotel,
we drive to Roskilde. Among other things, the city is known worldwide for its almost 40 royal tombs. The tomb of the current queen has already been prepared.
We are guests at the Viking Ship Museum. The Viking Ship Hall was created as a large exhibition space for the permanent presentation of the 5 world-famous Skuldelev Viking ships. Today we visit Copenhagen again. Our first destination is Rosenborg Castle. It is centrally located in the royal park “Kongens Have” and has housed the most valuable treasures of the Danish kings and queens for over 400 years, including the crown jewels as a highlight. .
After this visit, the rest of the day is at leisure. There is time to stroll, browse, shop or we enjoy the world-famous Danish cosiness (hygge) in one of the numerous cafés …
In the evening we are guests for the last time in the restaurant of our hotel. We review the last few days and enjoy the last evening in Denmark.
