History on rails

Railway Museum, Odense

A visit to the Danish Railway Museum is a great experience for everyone! The museum is located in the center of Odense and is housed in a 21-track, large depot building from 1954. The building was originally built as a locomotive workshop for the DSB (Danish State Railways) and the private railways of North Funen. Today the depot is a beautiful exhibition space where your groups can experience Denmark’s railway history up close in a rustic and industrial setting. From Denmark’s oldest surviving locomotive, the H40 from 1868, to the large diesel-electric ME locomotive from 1981. IN H.C. In Andersen’s birthplace you can of course also experience the early history of the railway through his eyes. The famous poet shares his experiences with museum guests. He undertook his first train journey in 1840 and was very enthusiastic. It was a trip to Germany, which he then wrote very vividly about in his diaries.

Explore the depot
Take a seat on the uncomfortable wooden benches in the old passenger cars, take a look into the royal saloon cars and see the snow plow from the days of ice winters. Or you can set the small model trains in motion. Another highlight of the exhibition are the many fascinating ferry models that are waiting to be discovered.

The orange tractor and the Olsen gang
“The Olsen Gang on the Trail” is a true railway classic in which trains and railways are central elements in Egon Olsen’s plan. At the Danish Railway Museum you can experience the orange shunting tractor, Tractor No. 57, which was featured in the film. Here he was almost like a fourth gang member, pulling the boxcar with all the gold bars.

Souvenirs and cafe
Of course, the museum has a shop with a large selection of books about the railway, beautiful posters, postcards and souvenirs as well as a large selection of toys. The shop is open every day of the week. The museum café is open every weekend, on public holidays and during holidays. Fresh sandwiches, salads, cakes and other snacks are always available here.

The home of Hans Christian Andersen

Odense - the capital City of Funen

Funen has a lot to offer, especially for groups. The island is of course known for her most famous son – Hans Christian Andersen – whom you meet every step of the way in Odense.
After the obligatory guided tour through the city, you can of course visit the Hans Christian Andersen Museum (optional). Or you can spend the time in the very attractive and beautiful pedestrian zone in the city center.

The 123 castles and mansions on Fyn are truly fairytale-like, spreading their very special charm and many of which can be visited.

The many old Funen towns and villages have a special atmosphere. The mild island climate ensures a richly set table, so the cuisine on Fyn is very regional, always fresh, very tasty and pampers your groups according to all the rules of culinary art.
