Odense, the hometown of Hans Christian Andersen

The Funen region is known as the " "—Denmark's sun garden!

Funen has a lot to offer, especially for groups. The island is, of course, known for its most famous son—Hans Christian Andersen—whom you’ll encounter at every turn in Odense.
After the obligatory guided tour of the city, a visit to the Hans Christian Andersen Museum is a natural choice (optional). Or you can spend your time in the very attractive and beautiful downtown pedestrian zone.

The 123 castles and manor houses on Funen are truly magical; they exude a very special charm, and many of them are open to visitors.

The many old towns and villages on Funen have a special atmosphere. The mild island climate ensures a bountiful spread; as a result, the cuisine on Funen is very regional, always fresh, and incredibly flavorful, treating your groups to the very best the culinary arts have to offer.

Ceramics with a view!

Ceramics Museum, Middelfart

CLAY, a leading museum for ceramic art, crafts and design, is picturesquely situated directly on Lillebælt. Here, modernity and history meet dynamically in exhibitions, collections and architecture. The iconic main building dating from 1857 is complemented by large underground rooms with changing exhibitions of contemporary Danish and international ceramic art of the very highest quality.
You and your group can also discover the “treasure chamber” with magnificent pieces from the Royal Copenhagen collection. This collection includes porcelain, earthenware and faience spanning 240 years.
The museum has a lovely café with a fantastic view of the water and a well-stocked museum store with all kinds of ceramics. Café CLAY serves coffee with fresh, delicious cakes, sandwiches, Danish lunch specialties and salads with fish or chicken as well as vegetarian dishes, all with a unique view of the Belt.

Contemporary art with a historical twist!

Valdemar's Castle, Svendborg

On the island of Tåsinge near Svendborgsund, Valdemar Castle blends Danish history with international contemporary art. Built by King Christian IV between 1639 and 1644, this royal palace is the only one of its kind in private ownership. Every summer, historic architecture and works by renowned artists come together here in a unique setting. Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo styles, along with an idyllic park, a reflecting pond, and a tea pavilion on the coast, make a visit here a special experience. A café and gift shop round out the visit.

Denmark's Railway Museum, Odense

In the heart of Odense, a fascinating glimpse into Denmark’s railway history awaits you. In a historic locomotive depot dating back to 1954, you’ll discover impressive exhibits, ranging from the oldest surviving Danish locomotive from 1868 to powerful diesel locomotives. Explore historic passenger cars, royal parlor cars, ferry models, and model trains. A special highlight is the orange shunting tractor from the famous Olsen Gang movies. The museum combines the history of technology with exciting stories and nostalgic experiences. A museum shop and a café round out the visit.

Where history gets under your skin!

The Danish Social Welfare Museum in Svendborg

Behind high walls and barbed wire, you’ll experience the moving history of Danish social welfare from 1872 to 1974 at the former poorhouse and workhouse. On a guided tour, you’ll explore authentic rooms and courtyards where people lived who were unable to care for themselves or who had been marginalized by society. The exhibition “The Undesirables” gives a voice to 20 former residents through their personal fates and life stories. A unique and powerful visit that offers insights into poverty, exclusion, and social inequality—and leaves a lasting impression.
