From enmity to friendship!

Dybbøl Banke History Center, Sønderborg

The Düppel redoubts are undoubtedly Denmark’s most famous battlefield. The year 1864 is a milestone in Danish-German history. It was the year of the Second Schleswig Feud, also a very important chapter in their shared history.

Many years have passed since the conflict in 1864 and today the beautiful Düppeler Mill stands on the battlefield in memory of the victims of both countries, as a sign of today’s excellent cross-border relations and the unprecedented cooperation between the two peoples.
The Dybbøl Banke History Center takes your groups back to this fateful year in an exciting way. With stories, re-enactments and film footage, the history of that time is brought to life so that guests can understand what happened back then. You can marvel at a collection of original clothing from the period. A redoubt with several buildings has been recreated in the outdoor area, which you can of course walk through and which allows you to immerse yourself directly in the events. Cannons thunder, uniforms scratch and the smell of gunpowder tantalizes the nose. You can actively participate if you like and, for example, lie down in the straw in the barracks or try on the fine uniforms of the soldiers, and you’ll feel like you’re back in 1864…
Another highlight is certainly a visit to the historic mill on the site. Spend both entertaining and exciting hours with your group at the Dybbøl Banke History Center.

The largest adventure center on the west coast...

Kystcentret Thyborøn

The largest adventure center on the west coast……is the motto of Kystcentret Thyborøn on the northwest coast of Jutland. Over 5,000 square meters of activities and attractions are waiting to be discovered.

Group travelers experience a top-class travel module here. Through impressive experiments, you gain insights into dramatic natural experiences that have shaped the coastal country of Denmark. Here you can experience a lot on your own and learn amazing things about the prevailing nature.

A “barefoot path” invites you to “feel”. A special attraction is the exhibition about the “Alexander Nevsky”, the Tsar’s sailing ship. The pride of the Russian navy ran aground off Thyborøn in 1868.

Worth seeing is the Reptile Land, where your groups can experience many interesting, native animals up close, e.g. giant adders, vipers, toads, lizards and much more. Also new is the exciting story of the “turtle spy”, who became a hero during the Second World War, as well as the walk-in exhibition bunker.

Its history is audibly documented in the bunker itself, which is also furnished with original objects from the period.

History, culture and above all architecture!

Koldinghus, Kolding

The historic castle was built in 1268 to protect the Danish border with Schleswig, which ran through here at the time. Today, Koldinghus is a castle ruin, museum and architectural masterpiece, making it a unique experience for visitors from all over the world.

A walk-in art sculpture with a fantastic view

Marsk Tower

In the immediate vicinity of the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site, in the middle of the marshes, full of unique natural and cultural experiences, proudly stands one of the highlights of the South Jutland region – the “Marsk Tower” observation tower. This special attraction is not actually a tower, but rather a walk-in art sculpture with a fantastic view. The sculpture winds 25 meters upwards like a DNA strand and gives your groups an intense experience of nature. This unique architectural masterpiece represents the DNA of both man and nature here in the Wadden Sea. The tower is so ingeniously built that no-one comes your way during the ascent and descent, as there is a different way up than down. Once at the top, after 146 steps, you feel at one with the surroundings and nature, which casts a spell over you. In good weather, you can see as far as Sylt 36 meters above sea level. On the way down, you then “only” need to climb 131 steps. Marsk Tower is also barrier-free, as there is an invisible elevator in the middle of the sculpture that can also be used. The attraction also spoils your groups with culinary delights if you wish. The cozy restaurant with a great view of the marshland is perfectly equipped for groups , from a delicious smørrebrød to a Danish or international dish, everything is possible, prepared with fresh produce from the region. Enjoy one of the most beautiful views in Denmark with your group…!

The village is in a very idyllic location, where ducks wade across the historic cobbled castle street in the village center with its old trees, in which the light from old traditional lanterns refracts in the evening and shows the way. In the middle of this seemingly frozen time lies the Kro of Schackenborg Castle, built in 1687, in the immediate vicinity of the castle itself.

The fact that history is written in capital letters here is immediately apparent when you enter the very cozy and historic Kro. It has been restored more extensively than ever before and now shines in new splendor, making your stay a truly royal experience. The kitchen takes your groups on a gastronomic journey through modern variations of Southern Jutland cuisine with seasonal, regional dishes made from fresh local ingredients. , was a bastion of both the Danish crown and the church, which fought against the Counts of Holstein at the time. A total of 11 generations of the Count Schack family lived in the castleuntil it passed to the royal family in 1978. In the meantime
the castle has been transferred to a foundation. Many unique stories about the royals and other exciting events accompany your groups during the guided tour of the castle and gardens. In the former riding stables, a café invites you to linger over a delicious cup of coffee and a pastry.

Sønderborg Castle, Sønderborg:

800 years of history:
Denmark and the German-Danish borderland!

Sonderburg Castle has stood at the entrance to Alsensund for around 800 years. Numerous important events in the history of Denmark and the border region have taken place here. The exhibitions in the castle focus on Danish history over the last 200 years from the perspective of North Schleswig. In the exhibition “North Schleswig 1920 to today” you can follow the development up to the present day.

But there are also princely chambers from the 16th century to discover, such as the great Knights’ Hall or Queen Dorothea’s Chapel, which is Scandinavia’s oldest surviving Renaissance room. You can also learn more about the fate of the Danish King Christian II, who was imprisoned in the castle for 17 years. A new feature is a special exhibition about the First World War. As North Schleswig was part of Germany during this time, many men from the region took part in the war as German soldiers.

At Sonderburg Castle you can also book three different guided tours: on the history of the castle, the German-Danish War of 1864 or the period from 1920 to the present day. The castle café invites groups to enjoy coffee and cake as well as light meals, in which case please remember to book in advance. Combine a visit to Sonderburg Castle with a visit to the unique brickworks in Cathrinesminde, just 13 km from Sonderburg. After a short drive through the picturesque landscape with the Flensburg Fjord on the horizon, you will reach this important industrial monument, which is suitable for groups. Here you will get an impression of the work and everyday life of the working families who produced bricks here for over 200 years while enjoying the view of the fjord.

Wadden Sea World Heritage Site: Høyer

The easiest safari in the world!

A safari in Denmark? That’s not possible!
Yes, it is and an incredible nature experience awaits your groups in the Wadden Sea National Park. This national park is the only one of its kind in the world and is home to the largest flocks of birds in Europe. There are also masses of oysters on the seabed.
You can experience these natural attractions in natural areas on one of 2 different, exciting
safaris, which are designed so that people with walking difficulties can also take part: the Wadden Sea Safari and the Oyster Safari.
The highlight par excellence and Denmark’s biggest nature attraction is a world-class nature experience,
where millions of starlings gather for an aerial ballet, literally darkening the sky and performing a unique drama. The starlings “dance” for about an hour at sunset in the marshland of the national park with unimaginable aerial acrobatics. It is not without reason that more than 100,000 people admire the ballet of life and death every year, as the gigantic flocks are attacked by birds of prey.
The oyster safari is just as exciting and a culinary experience at the same time.
During a walk about 300 meters out on the Wadden Sea, your group will collect lots of oysters, which you can of course also taste and enjoy directly. The guide will tell you the story about the importance of oysters, a story about kings, counts, power, wealth and decay.
Depending on the weather, tides and season, your group may have to change the booked safari on the day of the excursion. In any case, you will experience the unique Wadden Sea World Heritage Site with experienced local tour guides who present the tours in an interesting and entertaining way. Don’t miss out on this experience and go on safari in Denmark with your group!

The windmill of Højer, Højer

The gateway to the Wadden Sea and delicious cakes in the mill garden!

Visit the museum in the beautiful mill in Højer, where milling and grain trading took place from 1857 to 1972, and experience the history and technology of the mill. In the exhibitions in the two granaries “Store Spiker” and “Lille Spiker” you can learn more about the life of the mill and the Tønder marsh.
The former miller’s house is home to the Museumslanden, which offers specialties and handicrafts from the region. The café serves light lunches, delicious ice cream, coffee and home-baked cake specialties from Southern Jutland. A culinary highlight is the homemade and always fresh South Jutland bread cake, which is a must-try! In good weather, you can enjoy the delicacies in the beautiful mill garden, but we ask groups to book in advance.
The mill is also a good starting point for your visit to the Tonderner Marsch and the Wadden Sea National Park. From here, several hiking trails lead further into the unique nature. Groups can combine their visit to the mill with a guided walk on the dikes and along the locks with stories about the town of Højer and the marsh. This walk of approx. 4.5 km takes about 2 hours.
